This school is terrible and I couldn't be happier I left the district last year. The teachers are mediocre and a lot of them just print off some other teachers easy worksheets that any student should be able to get an A on. As far as the faculty, deans and principles, I have heard they don't really care about much of anything yet they are very rude and threaten students when they feel like it. The school itself is very old and run down with multiple mold problems. The hallways are usually packed with people bumping into each other constantly and yelling. There are usually a few fights throughout the year and everyone just stands there cheering because the school policy is if you protect someone getting beaten, you will be expelled. I hope greatschools can see this review and possibly reconsider their poor choice to give a school with issues and a 77% average 10 out of 10.

STCE is awesome. I was ready for my college courses and was able to get a partial academic scholarship because of the courses I took and my class ranking. I don't think I would have had the offer I did if I had gone to another school with lower standards.

Our whole family loves East. Being the original h.s. in town there is a town of pride in this school and it shows at sporting events. The curriculum is rigorous and prepares students for college. I was shocked at the class offerings. They offer courses you find at most colleges. It think it's great kids are getting a chance to explore some of their interests in hs rather than having to pay an exorbitant amount of money at college to find out later they don't like a topic or area of study. Parents and students alike are very involved and welcoming to new comers.

I'm also a former student and I didn't realize the education that I received from STCE until I left. My first year at college has been academically boring compared to the challenging fast pace of the STCE curriculum. Yes the clubs and sports often have to make cuts and sometimes it can get a little ridiculous but that's the way the real world works. STCE taught me that I need to truly put my heart into what I'm passionate about if I want to succeed. You can't expect to have it all handed to you. I appreciate my education from STCE more now than I ever thought I would.

The parents are really involved at this school. The students are kind and and respectful. The teachers are great and try really hard to bring out the best in the students.

My daughter loves this school. She is somewhat shy but has been able to branch out by participating in key club and swim team. The kids are really competitive academically and in sports but any community with an excellent school system is going to find top notch teachers and students. She has had some issues with how fast the classes go but was able to get help after school. The teachers won't baby you at this school so the students do have to take ownership and ask for help. The kids at this school are unusually inclusive. You don't typically find all the kids sitting together at a football game cheering on the team together. It almost seems like cliques don't exist. My daughter was also really well prepared for the ACT. Between the positive student environment and staff, we couldn't be happier.

I think there were some issues in the past 5 years but since the new principal took over a few years ago, this school and it's administration are top notch! I've had a lot of ups and downs with my kids and needed some extra support from the guidance counselors. They were all very understanding and more importantly concerned with my kids emotional well being. The teachers and principal live in our town and their kids go to this school. I am really happy we had such caring people at this school to help us when we needed it.

St Charles East was ranked 39 on US News 2014 Best School report sandwiched between Naperville Central and Downer's Grove North. St Charles was named Best City for Families by Family Circle magazine. We have amazing schools. That said, public school is not a fit for every student. It's not a one size fits all and that should be considered when deciding to send your children to public school. The sports are competitive, academics are competitive and the staff is top notch. We are very fortunate to live in such a safe city, with excellent schools!

STCE has been a wonderful school for my 3 kids. The new principal Charlie Kyle is a welcome change and positive leader for the staff. The courses have been very challenging and helped prepare my children for college (one attends Northwestern and the other Univ of Michigan). If you are committed to seeing your children succeed, you will love this school and the staff!

My son loves this school. He is in all Honors courses and is a 3 sport athlete. He loves the school spirit this school has as well as the challenging Engineering program (STEM). I reached out to the teachers prior to each year he started to get a feel for the curriculum so he could prepare over the summer. I have NEVER had a teacher not respond with all the essential text books and syllabus for their courses. They emailed me immediately or called by phone. The teachers are incredibly committed to seeing the students succeed but it does require that the student make the effort. The counselors are quick to help as well. We have so many positive experiences with this school it dumbfounds me that other parents would write reviews without substantiating their claims. The test scores don't lie and neither do the college acceptance letters. St Charles has always had excellent public schools.

This school needs a lot of help! Have 2 children attend this school and was less than impressed with academics, teachers attitudes and especially upper administration. When a school stresses sports over academics something is seriously wrong . Upper management is more interested in looking good than students well being, good luck in getting positive changes made at this school! What are they doing with all our tax money?

Like St. Charles East very much! Is it the best? No. What school is? St. Charles East seems to be getting kicked in the pants. Let's stop whining, parents, and get real. No school is perfect. Many are less than perfect. That is reality. Parents need to help their students prepare for the real world. A teacher's job is to try to provide students with the appropriate academic information needed to do so. Students need to take owenership over their own learning and development.

this school should not be rated a 10 period. talk about fudging test scores to move kids through the system just to graduate.

We have been very disappointed with this school. It feels as if the most important thing for this addm. is to look good to others. There is no quality of education here. The teaching staff has a very uncaring attitude to the students needs. They talk the talk but don't walk the walk...its all lip service. The amount of tax $ we pay is CRAZY. Quality of education and teaching staff = poor.

This is a follow up about my daughter's experiences at St. Charles East. (graduated in 2004) She is now working on a PHD in astrophysics. Looking back she wishes, teachers would have pushed her harder, and encouraged her more. She questions why in her entire school career (K-12) in St. Charles, did teachers never plan a field trip to Fermilab. She has met many other science grad. students who lived in other states who came to Illinois to see Fermi. She hopes the science department has improved. She loved band, and theater. Her skills in the arts were well developed compared to peers in college, so she was able to participate in these activities even though she majored in physics. This is a long term view. Hopefully the district has sought to improve some areas.
